Details of the “Auction” Service.
Railway photographs are very collectible and appear regularly on Internet auction sites such as eBay.
If you want to earn a little money by selling your photographs, but do not have the time or expertise to offer them for auction, then we can arrange it all for you.
The service consists of placing a suitable set of your pictures on the eBay web site.
We manage the whole transaction from initial placement through the sale, payment, production of the actual photograph (from the security copy) and delivery to the purchaser.
At the end of the process any profits are placed in your account, and can be withdrawn at any time or used to discount any future scanning services
Because of the way the eBay insertion fees and commission work, We normally place photos with an initial starting price of 99p – but carefully monitor sale patterns and review this. For example we may offer a batch of photos with a common theme for a higher starting price. Once the auction begins then anything can happen. We certainly can’t promise a fortune, but every little helps.
The way we charge for this service is on a commission basis. If the item does not sell, we still have to pay the insertion fee, but we will cover that as part of the service (there is an insertion fee if the starting price is more than 99p). If the item sells then we keep the first £1 of any profit. Any profit over £1 we share the proceeds 50/50. So if the profit on the sale of a photo is £5 you will have £2 in your account or if it is £10 your account receives a credit of £4.50. Profit is the monies received after paying any auction site or payment commissions.
All the insertions we make in eBay clearly state that the copyright of the photograph is NOT for sale. All photographs delivered to the buyers are clearly marked on the back with a copyright statement, and all sales are recorded with address of the purchaser.
We therefore do as much as we can to protect your rights as the originator of the picture.
Should a purchaser express an interest in making further use of the picture, for example to publish it in a magazine then we will negotiate a limited “right of use” with that person and charge an appropriate fee, which we will share with you in a similar way to the original purchase. We will make “right of use” available where appropriate unless you tell us when you start this service that you do not want this. Should a prospective purchaser want to buy the actual copyright, then we will refer this matter to you before any such sale is made
